Artificial Lovers
Look at their perfection, you tell yourself. Perfect lips, piercing eyes, soft skin. You can’t compete with this.
It’s not even a matter of personality any more. They’ll mold to their owner in every way they can, provide enough push and pull to generate a perfect relationship.
The pool of people willing to date you would become infinitesimal even if you were a sexy astrophysicist. As it stands, you don’t have a chance.
That’s what they never saw- any of the shows, books, or movies that tried to deal with this. They said perfection couldn’t work, because something would seem wrong. But perfection with intentional flaws is still perfection, and it works on every person.
You’ve tried to avoid the gaze of the male versions. All of your friends claim to have one or are accompanied by one at all hours. You’ve told yourself that you can do better than them, and have a meaningful relationship.
But now you feel weary of that. Why not have a relationship right now with someone you’d want to spend forever with? Why stall, and punish yourself, and act like in the end you’ve achieved something extra?
You save your money and buy one. With it comes a massive sense of relief.
